Pennsylvania Water

Heavy, damaging rainfall events have already increased measurably in Pennsylvania and across the Northeast in recent decades. The frequency and severity of heavy rainfall events is expected to rise further under either emissions scenario, increasing the risk of flooding and damage to property and public infrastructure. In turn, increased flooding could worsen erosion and water-quality problems. Communities throughout the region must take more extreme rainfall into account when upgrading water and sewer systems, bridges, dams and other public infrastructure.
