Facing 14 days over 100°F

Buffalo, which has no days of 100°F or hotter on record, is projected to face 14 such days every year by late-century if emissions continue unabated. Days with extreme heat—above 90°F—can greatly increase the risk of heat stress, heart attack, and death. Cities across the state will need to prepare for an increase in dangerously hot conditions by taking steps (e.g., improving insulation in homes and businesses, establishing heat warning systems, and setting up cooling centers) that can lessen the impacts of extreme heat on vulnerable populations. See the Extreme Heat in Our Cities section for information on Buffalo's future temperatures.
